Horizon Forbidden West was slated to release sometime this fall, though there was never a firm release date for that 2021 window provided by either Guerrilla or Sony. Now we know when it will release and that pre orders for PS4 and PS5 will go live on September 2.

In a Gamescom video, seen below, Game Director Mathijs De Jonge said that the team wanted to polish the game as well as they could before releasing it.

He went on to say that “It’s no surprise that our teams were hugely impacted by the global pandemic. We’ve been adjusting to new workflows and all the challenges while keeping our team safe and prioritizing healthy work, life balance. But today, we can finally confirm that our long-awaited sequel will come to both PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5 on the 18th of February, 2022.”

Horizon Forbidden West was announced back in 2020. during Sony’s Future of Gaming presentation, which also revealed other notable games like Demon’s Souls and Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart.

Guerrilla Games has also released a new patch for those looking to jump into Horizon Zero Dawn on PS5 and get the best performance possible. Patch 1.53 lets HZD hit 60fps on PlayStation 5. According to the notes alongside the update, it “unlocks framerate to 60 … in backwards compatibility mode … fixed streaming performance issue … in backwards compatibility mode, [and] removed Graphics Mode option from the Visual Settings … in backwards compatibility mode.”
